I often am asked "What good is HypnoBirthing if there are complications?" This letter from Vicki answers that question better than I can. I thank Vicki and Aaron for giving me permission to post it on the web. Dear Daryl, My husband Aaron and I took part in your 2 day course back in December in preparation for the birth of our first child, due in April. We both found the course to be extremely interesting, positive, insightful and inspiring. For the months leading up to the birth of our baby we regularly practiced the techniques and found the CDs provided to be very useful. Having the hypnobirthing techniques to focus on helped me feel positive and await the birthing process with excited anticipation. The birth of our beautiful daughter - Aila - on the 12th April did not go exactly as we had prepared for however I did manage to remain drug and intervention free throughout. The complications meant that I had to be monitored and on a IV drip so I could not use all of the active birhting positions we had hoped to put into practice - being stuck in a bed was the last thing I wanted! Despite these circumstances I remained calm, positive and incredibly focussed throughout the labour, thanks to the hypnobirthing. Aaron was able to offer my incredible support as my birthing partner and talk me through each contraction, constantly reminding me of the affirmations we had selected which helped me stay strong and deal with the discomfort of the surges. After a very protracted labour Aila was delivered vaginally (with my legs in stirrups - not how I had visualised at all!) having turned from posterior to anterior at the last minute - phew! The midwives and obstetricians present all commented on how incredibly strong, focussed and calm I remained during what was a pretty difficult birthing process - they were also very impressed with the 'team effort' of Aaron and myself. The midwife who delivered Aila told us we were 'an inspiration' which was wonderful feedback to recieve following such a long and at times very difficult process. In fact, a few of them asked for your contact details so they really must have been impressed! We truly believe that it was thanks to the hypnobirthing that we were able to make a potentially very medicalised process as natural and positive as possible. Thanks for providing us with the tools to achieve this. Warm Regards, Vicki and Aaron | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
